Olympic Training, Applied to You
Most people assume getting fitter means training more. Elite sport works the other way round. Athletes get better when every session is planned and measured, and when they recover well enough to adapt.
Sarah trained that way for three Olympic cycles. Every ROAR programme is built on the same approach, for fat loss, muscle or strength, and for complete beginners as much as experienced lifters.

Sarah came through the British system as a short track speed skater, a sport where races are won on technique and on decisions made in a packed field. She was British champion ten times, won European gold and raced at three Winter Olympic Games in a row.

- 2002
Salt Lake City
Her first Winter Olympics, racing the strongest short track nations in the world.
- 2006
Turin
Her second Games. She raced the 500, 1000 and 1500 metres and reached the semi-finals of the 500 and 1500 metres.
- 2010
Vancouver
Her third Games, as one of the most experienced skaters in the British team.

ROAR Opens in the City of London
After competing, Sarah coached Team GB figure skaters. In 2016 she and body transformation specialist Rich Phillipps opened ROAR, to train everyday clients the way she had been trained. Gyms in Kensington and Downtown Dubai followed.

How Olympic Training Shapes Your Programme
Every ROAR trainer, in London and Dubai, works to the five principles Sarah trained under. Here is how each one worked on the ice, and how it works in your programme.
| Principle | On the Ice | In Your Programme |
|---|---|---|
| Structured Progression | Training planned in phases towards a competition, with every session given a job. | A programme written in phases towards your goal, so each session moves you closer to it. |
| Precision Coaching | Technique repeated until it held under pressure, with small gains measured and kept. | Your trainer corrects technique on every set, records what you lift and adjusts the plan from the numbers. |
| Performance Nutrition | Food planned around training to fuel performance and recovery. | A nutrition plan built around your training and the foods you already eat, with no crash dieting. |
| Accountability | A coach reviewing progress every week and holding the athlete to agreed targets. | You check in with your trainer every week, so someone is holding you to the plan between sessions. |
| Recovery and Longevity | Recovery planned as carefully as training, because a career at the top only lasts if the body does. | Sleep and recovery planned alongside training, so you keep progressing and keep your results once the programme ends. |

Questions About Olympic-Style Training
Anything not covered here, ask us at your free consultation.
How is this different from standard personal training?
Every session is planned in advance. Your trainer writes your programme in phases with measurable targets, records your numbers each session and adjusts the plan from them.
I’m new to training. Will it be too advanced for me?
No. Your programme starts from your current fitness and experience. Your trainer teaches you correct technique first and builds the load from there, so beginners progress at a pace that is safe for them.
How does nutrition fit into the programme?
Your trainer writes a nutrition plan around your training, with recipes and macronutrient guidance. It is built on habits you can keep, with no crash dieting.
How quickly will I see results?
Early changes in body composition, posture, strength and energy can show in as little as three weeks, with bigger changes typically within 8 to 12 weeks. Results depend on how consistently you train and follow the plan.
Will I keep my results after the programme?
Your programme includes habit tracking and recovery planning alongside the training, so the routines behind your results are ones you can keep after the programme ends.
